Malcolm Stevens

Chairman of the Board of Directors

Mr. Stevens qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in Perth, Western Australia in 1972 after completing a Bachelor of Commerce at Curtin University. Since then Mr. Stevens has worked with several International Investment Banks with emphasis in the mining and resource sector. In 1988 Mr. Stevens established an independent Investment dealer, CanAustra Investments Ltd., which focuses on project financing of Woodside’s North West Shelf Gas projects and other loan financing in Australia and Canada. In 1996 Mr. Stevens established an international private equity fund focused on venture capital for the mining and resource sector. He has been Chairman of a number of private and public companies and today is Executive Chairman and President of the private equity group CanAustra Holdings Ltd., Sphere Resources in Canada, and Executive Chairman of AAP Carbon Ltd. in Hong Kong.

Mick Gavrilovic


Mr. Gavrilovic has an extensive background in the development and operations of international mining and energy projects. He received his B.E. in mechanical engineering from the University of Western Australia. Mr. Gravrilovic has significant experience at a senior level in surface and underground gold and nickel mining projects, and has been involved in the construction of a number of mineral processing plants and vertical mine shafts. During his early engineering career, Mr. Gavrilovic held a variety of senior maintenance, project development and operations roles encompassing all facets of operating large mineral processing facilities, together with the provision of ancillary services and utilities to remote areas. He worked with technology and mining companies including RokTek USA Ltd., Transcom Gas Technologies, M.C. LaBarr Mining Machinery, JR engineering Co and Western Mining Co.

William H. Whitmore Jr.


Mr. Whitmore has held various high-level executive management positions with a strong operations background. For the past 10 years he was the Managing Director of Envisionte, LLC, a Global Business Development Enterprise engaged in consulting for private and public entities around the world. In this position, he managed all aspects of administration and was the representative contact for investment groups that funded projects and numerous other business models under his supervision. While consulting for clients, Mr. Whitmore has developed many executive teams and draws on a wide and diverse list of contacts around the globe to achieve the creation of solid and competent management teams.  Mr. Whitmore brings over 20 years of experience in upper level management developing executive teams for public and private companies.

John S. Wittler, CFO


Mr. Wittler has an extensive financial based background.  Prior to joining Spartan Gold, Mr. Wittler served as Managing Director of his own consulting practice where he provides financial and accounting consulting services to both private and public companies He is a Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of eLayaway, Inc. (ELAY.OB) and has served as CFO of Alternative Construction Technologies, Inc., Organa Technologies Group, Inc. and Go Wireless International Ltd.

Mr. Wittler has had extensive involvement in capital raises, business integrations, SEC registration and regulatory filings, involvement with Board of Directors, mergers and acquisitions, internal controls and risk management, accounting systems design and implementations, and financial analysis and planning.  John began his career with Ernst & Young in Indianapolis, Indiana and is a CPA (inactive), has a bachelor’s of science degree in accounting from Ball State University, and is currently a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Florida Institute of CPAs.

Marshall Auerback


Marshall Auerback has 30 years’ experience in the investment management business, serving as a global portfolio strategist for Pinetree Capital, a Canadian-based fund management group specialising in the natural resource sector.  He also serves as a director for Sphere Resources, is an economic consultant to PIMCO, the world’s largest bond fund management group, and a Research Fellow for the Economists for Peace and Security.  From 1983-1987, he was an investment manager at GT Management (Asia) Limited in Hong Kong, where he focussed on the markets of Hong Kong, the ASEAN countries (Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand), New Zealand and Australia.  From 1988-91, Mr Auerback was based in Tokyo, where his Pacific Rim expertise was broadened to include the Japanese stock market.  From 1992-95, Mr Auerback worked in New York for the Tiedemann Investment group, where he ran an emerging markets’ hedge fund.  From 1996-99, he worked as an international economics strategist for Veneroso Associates, which provided macroeconomic strategy to a number of leading institutional investors, including the World Bank, as well as helping Mr. Veneroso to research the “Gold Book Annual 1998”..  From 1999-2002, he managed the Prudent Global Fixed Income Fund for David W. Tice & Associates, a USVI-based investment management firm, and assisted with the management of the Prudent Bear Fund.  Mr Auerback graduated magna cum laude in English & Philosophy from Canada’s  Queen’s University in 1981 and received a law degree from Corpus Christi College, Oxford University in 1983.
